Being fan of novel (and visual novel) is the reason I am interested in reading World End Economica (WEE). The creator is Spicy Tails , the same creator who made one of my favourite anime (and light novel), Spice and Wolf. This Japanese Visual Novel is currently being translated by Sekai Project and has three episodes in total. The episode 1 is already available on steam. This my impression so far on playing / reading episode 1
Story (4/5)
One word, Epic.
Reading the novel feels like sitting in a economy classroom that teaches about stocks in a unique way. The combination of the economic science to the adventurous plot blend quite well. The character development is a bit shabby at the beginning, but they got much stronger in the end.
The story starts on far in the future where humans has colonized moon. A japanase boy named Haru had a big dream to stand and reach where no man has stood before. To accomplish that, he needs an enormous amount of capital. He gathers money by playing on stock market.
Along the story, Hal will meet Hagana, the girl that give Hal and this novel an interesting plot to read.
She is a mathematician genius, a tsundere girl (and kinda cute sometimes). It’s pretty interesting to see how both of them are tackling the main challenge on this story, stock market
Then there is this stock-market thing. Expect to see some unknown jargons along the way with a kinda-enough-explanation-to-make-you-stop-and-think. For a knowledge lover (especially me), this is interesting. There are lot’s of information that can make me say “Oh so that’s how it works” and trigger my curiosity to do some googling
I somehow got the impression that the episode 1 only serves as the background for further conflict, which is actually not bad. But, some of the characters were left hanging without clear development on where they go. I hope to see something in the next episode.
Graphic (3/5)
Pretty standard for a visual novel, nothing is really great or lacking off. The number of CG is enough to support the story, but the character animation is pretty limited. Nothing out of ordinary from the in game graphic.
I have to note that I hate the design for the menu screen, and the dialogue box. It seems too plain and giving the vibe of unfriendliness for me to use. Maybe it’s just me.. but who knows. What do you think?
Music (4/5)
I LIKE THE MUSIC. Although I feel sometimes annoyed that the music is not made to be loop-able on the English version (I don’t know about the Japanese version), the background OST is amazing. It totally fits the mood and the situation of the plot.
Conclusion
Worth to buy, worth to read. I spend around 9 hours to read the whole thing (according to steam) but my reading speed is damn fast, so you might experience longer reading time.
Happy reading!
